Planned Procedure with a Threshold (PPwT) is part of NHS NW London's function where a clinician makes a decision whether a patient meets the evidence-based thresholds for treatment defined in the NHS NW London’s PPwT policy.
NHS NW London has worked collaboratively to develop a common set of evidence based clinical treatment policies. These ensure access to NHS funded treatment is equal and fair whilst considering the needs of the overall population and evidence of clinical and cost effectiveness.
A full list of PPwT policies and procedures covered can be found below.
Access for treatment is either through:
- A clinical authorisation route (PPwT form) where funding is provided when particular clinical criteria and/ or thresholds are met; or
- If the procedure or drug is not routinely funded, through completion of an Individual Funding Request (IFR) form. Further information on the IFR procedures can be found here.
- Please note that prior authorisation for NHS NW London ICB Planned Procedures with a Threshold (PPwT) policies (with the exception of Open MRIs) are no longer required. Patient can proceed to treatment and referred onto secondary care if the patient meets clinical thresholds.
