The NW London Diabetes 10 Point Training (D10PT) programme is now available to health and social care staff as part of the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP).
The launch of this partnership during Diabetes Week 2022, which runs from June 13 to 19, is part of the wider national drive to improve diabetes care.
North West London Integrated Care System has partnered with CDEP to host this award winning training.
CDEP is a national competency-based e-learning platform that aims to upskill all levels of healthcare staff working in diabetes care.
The move will mean healthcare staff and carers coming into contact with people living with diabetes will have free online access to the Diabetes 10 Point Training Programme.

Arming health staff and carers with access to diabetes education is fundamental to providing high-quality care – this partnership will ensure widespread access across North West London, and beyond, to the knowledge needed to achieve this.”
Dr Mathi Woodhouse, GP and Clinical Lead for Diabetes North West London, said: “This training programme has already provided great results in terms of improving staff knowledge of managing patients with diabetes and improving safety. The confidence this has provided teams previously underserved has been well received, including mental teams and care homes. We hope that these new modules and the easy access to them will allow more health care professionals to take up this free training.”
Diabetes Nurse Consultant Ruth Miller, who developed the D10PT programme, added: “The exciting collaboration of D10PT with CDEP will vastly magnify the reach of basic diabetes training to all staff working across health and social care sectors. Our ambition is that by ensuring all staff have access to basic diabetes knowledge, it will be possible to provide the safest and highest quality of care for people living with diabetes.”
The D10PT helps support staff’s knowledge and boost their confidence in providing basic diabetes care, covering the difference between the types of diabetes, blood glucose monitoring, hypo- and hyperglycaemia and insulin and medication safely, as well as feet, mental health and eating with diabetes.
The D10PT modules are specifically designed for different staff groups:
- Adult inpatients workers
- Adult socal care workers (care homes and home care)
- Community nursing teams
- Adult inpatient and community mental health teams
The online training is delivered through a series of short videos with links for further reading and quizzes. It takes around an hour to finish and does not have to be done in one go. Completing a topic generates a certificate, reflection document and CDEP rewards.
