Analytical courses

Our health equity analytical courses and resources are designed to develop knowledge and skills relating to specialist analytical functions and insights that enable consistent and comprehensive support to both local and ICS-wide reporting and decision making. 

These courses and resources focus-on finding areas of inequalities using quantitative data. At a minimum, exploring disparities in constitutional standards based on deprivation, sex, age and ethnicity, expanding to other aspects where possible.

Foundation courses and resources are suitable for all staff. Advanced courses and resources are suitable for staff working in analytics roles, business intelligence or people who have already an understanding of or interest in analytics and statistics. 

Foundation courses and resources

Expected outcomes for people on these courses:

  • Understanding of, and orientation to, Whole Systems Integrated Care (WSIC) self-service, dashboards and how to use them.
  • Ability to complete basic searches to identify key cohorts and statistics.
  • An understanding of how data and analytics is relevant to your role.
  • How to embed and use data in your day-to-day role.

Provider - Midlands Decision Support Unit

Cost - Free

The aim of this workshop is to share and discuss the key principles of effective data visualisation and to inspire you to tell better stories with your data. Creating effective data visualisations is no longer a task for highly technical specialists and design professionals. In the modern workplace, we are all responsible for the data that we produce and learning how to effectively communicate with this data can be an invaluable asset.

Who this is for - This workshop is for anyone who works for a health or care service and who works with data as part of their role.

Provider - NHS North West London Business Intelligence leads

Cost - Free

Description - Training will support development of foundation level population health data literacy skills and provide an overview of access to and core functions of WSIC. This  population health data literacy course will build skills and confidence in embedding data usage in your day-to-day work.

Who this is for - All existing and new starter health and care staff in non-analyst roles. This includes NHS, council, PCN and VCS staff. This course is not relevant for people working in BI/analytics roles - please see advanced/cohort 2 training offer. All staff attending this training should ensure that they have a active WSIC username and password.  If you need an acocunt to be created or your account reactivated please contact the WSIC team at nhsnwl.wiscsupport@nhs.net

Provider - North West London Learning and Development Programme

Cost - Free

Description - Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application for storing and managing data. This is an online course that supports learning for this application, detailing everything from the basic functions to more complex and advanced features. You can do this course at any time.  

Who this is for - All ICS colleagues - includes ICB, borough, PCN & VCS staff who work with Excel as a core business tool.
